During your Alaska travel or Alaska vacation, it's worth the trip here to Valdez, Alaska, nicknamed "The Little Switzerland of America." When you stay with us at our bed and breakfast lodging in Valdez, you can go on several Alaska tours, including kayak tours, glacier wildlife cruises, or even a helicopter ride of Prince William Sound area, flying over or landing on a glacier. Fun, fun, fun!
You can walk the hiking trails and check out the beautiful waterfalls. Hiking and exploring on top the mountains on the pass is another thing many people enjoy doing. You can go biking on the bike trails to the beautiful views around Valdez.
We welcome fishermen who like to go ocean fishing (for halibut, salmon, etc.),
Helicopter skiers and groups are also welcome.
Some of the other local attractions are: the fish hatchery (where many people come to just watch the mama bears teaching their bear cubs how to fish), the Valdez boat harbor, gold panning, Gold Rush days, Fire weed bike race, free access to swimming pool at the high school, Valdez city wide salmon feeds and other events. We are located right off one of the many park strips with close access to the hiking trails.
More specifically activities may include: Going on a glacier wildlife cruise to the Columbia glacier and watch it calf with the Lu-Lu Belle Glacier Wildlife Cruises https://lulubelletours.com/ or the Stan Stephens Glacier & Wildlife Cruises https://www.stephenscruises.com/, taking a helicopter ride to one or more of the glaciers VSHelicopters https://vshelicopters.com/, doing a kayak tour of the Valdez Glacier Lake and hiking on the glacier with Anadyr Adventures https://anadyradventures.com/, or kayaking near the Columbia Glacier with Pangaea Adventures https://www.alaskasummer.com/ or Anadyr Adventures. Other options are river rafting with Pangaea Adventures, hiking on Thompson Pass , hiking on the Worthington Glacier with Pangaea Adventures, hiking up Mineral Creek to a waterfall and/or to the old stamp mill, hiking up to Solomon Lake on the Solomon Gulch trail (takes about 2.5 hours round trip) near the fish hatchery and watching bears at the fish hatchery, hiking on the Keystone Canyon Pack Trail in Keystone Canyon where Bridal Veil and Horsetail falls are, or hiking the Shoup Bay trail (6 hours round trip).
Or closer in town you may want to do some shorter hikes on the Dock Point Trail, the Overlook Trail, or the Homestead Trail. Its fun to watch the salmon spawning at the Forest Service Salmon Viewpoint (and sometimes see bears catching them there). There's also a nice waterfall there. Some people like to walk along the small boat harbor and check out all the shops. We also have three museums in town which are also very nice to see https://www.valdezmuseum.org/ and http://www.mjwhitneymuseum.org/.
